Chase Bliss: Dark World
/I’ve got good news and bad news, so bad news first. Bad news: I had surgery on my hand, so I’m out of commission for just a little bit. Good news: Pedals and Effects OG Mason Stoops is on hand to help debut the latest and greatest from Chase Bliss, the Dark World Dual Channel reverb!
Joel and co. are at it again! Adding to their line of quality pedals, the Dark World is everything you love from Chase Bliss; a unique spin on a beloved effect, with extensive in-depth controls and many surprises. Breaking from convention, the Dark World is Chase Bliss’ first all digital pedal. The Dark World being a dual channel reverb, has two very distinct sides to it. Joel collaborated with Cooper FX for the “darker” more experimental side, and Robert Keeley working on the “world” reverb side, which include classic reverb settings like “Hall”, “Plate” and “Spring” that most people are accustomed to. As you might expect, with both sides, you can have one going into the other (World into Dark, Dark into World) or have them both running simultaneously. It is 2018 after all, so it wouldn't be a reverb pedal without a “Shimmer”, but the Mod and “Dark” settings are something truly unique to Chase Bliss. The Dark World has a number of presets, and with classic Chase Bliss dip-switches it can everything from ethereal ambience, to even a crazy kind of tremolo. From Chase Bliss:
“Put together, the channels can be routed in 33 distinct ways, creating a stunning palette of reverb ranging from subtle, tasteful, and lush all the way to broken video cassette, glitch shimmer, and infinite freeze.”
Mason Stoops has been on Pedals and Effects way, way back in the day when he, Jamie Stillman and I jammed at 5Starr Sound Labs. We’re stoked to have Mason back to walk us through the Chase Bliss Dark World, he also gives me a hand with playing bass through it.
Big shout out to Mason for coming through, and helping us wrap our heads around this amazing pedal. We only scratched the surface of the Dark World, but it is a pedal that is absolutely going to help inspire.
