Killswitch Wars with Dwarfcraft’s Memento & CopperSound’s Telegraph Stutter

Pedals And Effects is always looking for pedals that have similar functions so we can make them a part of our “Wars” series! This week’s video is a bit of a stretch but essentially Dwarfcraft’s Memento and CopperSounds Telegraph Stutter are killswitch effects. Though very different, the Memento’s killswitch can be programmed and the Telegraph Stutter is an on the fly effect.

One of my favorite effects is the kill switch. I always equate it to turntablists’ transforming with faders but the effect of cutting up the audio signal is so musical to me. I usually use it via a toggle switch on my basses that just puts the signal through to the pickup or not! With gain in the chain, you can really get some cool cut up sounds. I also use hard cutting tremolos like Earthquaker Devices Hummingbird or BOSS’ PN-2 Tremolo/Pan to get the choppy effect.

Dwarfcraft’s Memento is great in that you can tap out a rhythmic pattern into the effect and the pedal will produce it chopped up in a loop. You can then kick that loop into double or quadruple time!  It is a killswitch with memory!

Coppersound’s Telegraph Stutter, on the other hand, is a great device that cuts up the signal on the fly similar to morse code like the vintage telegraphs it’s modeled after. They managed to capture that classic vintage telegraph aesthetic, so it’s definitely cool to see something so unique on your board. What I love about the Telegraph Stutter is that it is just like my pickup selectors where it completely cuts the audio signal so you get really hard chops in the sound. It works just like when I transform on my bass but in a much easier format.
