The Gas Cooker Mic Pre/DI Review

Robert Carranza has been around the music recording business for a very long time. I met Robert in the mid 90′s when I joined the band, Pet. He was engineering a session for us and we have been close friends ever since. He engineered The Mars Volta records Amputechture and The Bedlam In Goliath as well as Big Sir’s Und Die Scheiße Ändert Sich Immer and Before Gardens After Gardens. He has won several Grammys for his work and is one of the most knowledgeable gearheads I know -and he plays a mean double bass drum!

I spoke with Robert after we worked on a session and he gave me some insight into how he records me in the studio. I only had my iPhone 4s but I think it did the job. Robert uses The Gas Cooker Microphone Pre / Direct Box for my bass. I can’t tell you enough how musical this unit is, but I think Robert will tell it better here in this video. Did you use this to record alot of the new big sir tracks off BGAG? Or did you record most of it using an amp?

  4. JuanAlderete says:

Actually, I recorded that using an amp. This new stuff I have been working on has been all the Gas Cooker. Whether it is with the acoustic or my electric with all my pedals, this thing is super musical, catching all the harmonic content I throw out there.

Is the to amp output pre gain or post gain?
