Source Audio Giveaway
I am pretty excited about this giveaway. I contacted Source Audio over a year ago about my interest in their pedals and they sent me some to try out. I was really impressed with the variety of sounds that are possible with each and how easy each pedal is to dial in. They don’t just make a phaser, their Tri-Mod Phaser has a variety of unique sounds that can be changed with their famous Hot Hand Motion Controller.
Their Pro-Bass Envelope Filter doesn’t sound like any other envelope filter out there. It too has the same enormous sound availability as their phaser, with access to further adjustments via the Hot Hand Motion Controller. The Pro-Bass Envelope Filter can get the traditional funky envelope but with more adjusting, you can take it to the synthesizer realm of low end. You can also use a standard expression pedal with this unit as well.
The other pedal I am excited about is their Programmable EQ. As you know, I use a lot of pedals and some pedal combinations might need certain EQ boosts to attain a sound I am going for. The cool part of this pedal is that you can program up to four presets of EQ or just plain db boosts. Anyone really getting into sound sculpting knows how valuable this can be to all existing soundscapes. Think of all the possibilities of an EQ boost for those stubborn fuzzes that lack low end or the octave effects that lose top end and need help from an EQ pedal to regain what was lost. The Programmable EQ makes your life easier because it’s cheaper than buying four separate EQs; it also saves you the space on your pedalboard!
These pedals are, at this time, my favorite Source Audio pedals, but be sure to check out their other products. For example, they have this Dimension Reverb that sounds like no other reverb I’ve heard- more spacey and sci-fi than most. Their Hot Hand Motion Controller is something every musician should check out- it’s a revolutionary idea that has YouTube buzzing.

I really, really want to win one of these! I’m stuck in an area of St. Louis with hardly any good places to get great pedals and I’ve been dying to get my pedalboard thickened. Right now all I have is a cheap multi-effects pedal and a Memory Boy, but I’ve always been a huge fan of Mars Volta and Big Sir and the way each member uses the effects they do just astounds me. With my fascination for movie soundtracks and science fiction, I try to obtain that huge spacey sound with my instruments. Hopefully I can get to that point in my career playing music.

Hey guys! This name is new to me I must admit but, with all the new stuff coming out if it’s something Juan can get behind than it must too legit to quit. I’m really diggin the parametric e.q.’s on the last two. I definitely DO need a new phaser and have been eye-ing the mxr phaser 100 because of your sounds. Question, can you get the mxr 100 sounds with it?

On the envelope filter when you say “traditional” envelope filter do you mean like a “mu-tron” envelope sound? I really like the watery sounds of my Maxon autofilter but, wish it had Synth sounds built in like the source Audio one.

I’ve had my eye on a couple of these pedals for a while! Their Multiwave Bass Distortion is also a pretty cool pedal. Really aggressive and at times, super-synthy.

I am the Batman.
I just ordered the Programable EQ (I’m sure I’m ineligible for the give away!) to even out the differences between guitars with different levels. We run through a Bradshaw system and the midi capability will allow us to include the boost pedal as a part of the programs used for each song. Will let you know how it goes.

After 10 years of sitting in the corner looking pretty but gathering dust (my bass, not me) I’m back playing again! For some reason the first time around I never really took much interest in pedals or sculpting the sound in any other way than what the amp could do – but now my eyes have been opened and any of these 3 would be a great adventure!

I find that a great way to secure my Source Audio pedals to my pedal boards is with the use of zip-ties. Not velcro. Use one or two zip ties across the middle, where the groove is on most of these pedals (not on the EQ) and you can secure your pedals to 90% of the boards out there more securely than with velcro. This reduces wear on the pedals and eliminates the sticky residue on the bottoms. I play the Tri-MOd Wah, Phaser, Flanger and (occasionally) the Multiwave Distortion and zip ties from any hardware store work to hold the S.A. pedals in place. Rock on.

Just read about your great site in BassPlayer (hate their new format by the way!). I’ve been using more and more pedals the last few years and this site will be very helpful. Since most of the interesting pedals are kind of boutique-y you really have to buy one to check it out (as Guitar Center and the like don’t carry these things). Your interviews and videos will (hopefully) eliminate some trial and error (and save me a few bucks on shipping!).

Hey Juan- thanks for the great pedals site. This Source Audio stuff has gotten my attention before now, but now I’m really hoping I score one of these for my band. We do soul-funk rock with electronic-style improv breaks along but tie everything together with swampy blues. Since my EHX Bass Micro Synth broke a few months ago I’ve been getting spaced out with my Line 6 M9, but I could definitely use any of these three pedals in addition.
Juan! I’ve made several purchases based on your recommendation, and I’m always pleased with the result. It’s awesome to have a bass wizard out there for consultation at any time I may need it. And thanks for the awesome videos!
