I own an Empress compressor, I love it. More like a studio compressor than the CS2. It's more spendy, but you're really getting a high quality pedal. Also check out 3Leaf Audio's PWNZOR.

I own and love my Philosopher's Tone. I use it on both guitar and bass (sometimes my only pedal when I'm playing bass!).

I have an EBS MultiComp and I never leave my house without it, but it isn't capable of high compression, with 5:1 being the max ratio. I heard good opinions of the MXR one too.

For a good cheap comp, try the DOD Milk Box--it's got a hi expander knob in addition to level, comp and attack knobs. If you want lots of info on lots of other comps, go here: http://www.ovnilab.com/index.shtml
