Conjugal Burns bass sound with a Moog Mooger Fooger [pedal chaining & review]

I have been getting asked about the bass sound on the last song off of Bedlam In Goliath, “Conjugal Burns” so I thought I would show how you can create it.  When the bass was tracked, there were two ring modulators used.  One was the Maestro ring modulator and the other was Moog’s Mooger Fooger ring modulator.  Here I show you how you can get the sounds with the ring modulator that is still manufactured which is the Mooger Fooger.  There are so many great things a musician can do with this effect.  You can get super sci’fi sounds or you can get very synth-esque tones.  I like using the ring mod to do segway sounds in a Mars Volta set.  If you have heard live bootlegs of us, a lot of times you will here the ring modulator coming from my bass amplifier.  The Mooger Fooger is great but I believe  you can never own too many ring modulators and I will cover a few others in upcoming videos.

Thats awesome, I always wondered about that tone. Gotta get a Ring Mod.

Man, I’ve wanted to get a ring mod since I heard the earliest bootleg of the volta you can find online. Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford a moog fooger; currently my set up doesn’t cost as much as one moog!

Crazy video, I’m excited to hear the maestro ring mod as well.

Was the moogerfooger also used to some extent with an envelope filter on the “Tarantism” solo from Frances the Mute?

It was probably the MXR white bass wah.

I smiled real big when I saw this post. I love that sound so much. I also saw you talk about it on your Reddit AMA. I also heard that Omar uses it on the intro for Eriatarka.

Regardless, I’ve been looking everywhere for one of these. It’s so hard to find a place that sells them around me, but maybe I’ll order it. It looks and sounds so beautiful. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Excellent demo. I’ve had this pedal for about 6 months and I’ve barely unlocked the full potential. I have the Murf and the newest analog delay by Moog and I love the crap outta those pedals. I’m trying to find a good solid demo of the Cluster Flux. I’m intrigued because I need a good chorus/vibrato, but I’m not sold as of yet.

Hello Juan! I wanted to know: Have you ever tried the Way Huge Ring Worm? And if so, what are your thoughts about it?

  9. Dreyke says:

I remember when you had 4 huge pedalboards, you had 3 Moog ringmods, why 3?
