Boss CS-2: My Number One Pedal [review]
I have used the Boss CS-2 compressor/sustainer since Racer X. I was always in awe of how Eddie Van Halen used harmonics in his playing and I wanted to get those same harmonics as musical devices for myself. I would try compressors back in the 80′s but they would always just squash my sound and not enhance it. The Boss actually adds a boost to the high end, giving it a brightness that helps things like harmonics and finger scratching against the strings. I think this kind of stuff is super musical and I think essential to my sound. I have more compressors in my arsenal and will be featured in future videos. - Juan Alderete

I also couldn’t play bass without my CS-2 had it for a 4-5 years. I can’t imagine time without it. I’m alway trying all different compressors, boutique and whatever. This one always wins me over. It never sounds squishy or mushy or overly compressed. Juan summed it all up pretty much. It adds that great touchy articulation. Best part is I got mine on eBay for $55… best money I ever spent.
Thank you! I Was really looking forward to hearing harmonics!
First time I heard a compressor demo in a long time that made me want to buy it. Too bad you just drove the price up another $100
Great site Juan.
I can’t thank you enough for you wisdom and knowledge. Almost every gig I play at, folks comment on my board ‘dude… You’re a bassist! Why do you need so many pedals?!’ It’s not at all a ‘need’. It’s a choice and an extension of my voice. The natural bass sound is the actual speech. Effects and such are just the bass speaking on various topics and in languages. It’s all about sound. Again, THANK YOU. Cheers! – Fern; Fellow Bassist
I like much more the ebs multicomp far
nice review as always – really loving your site!
Here’s a review from a site that review almost every compressor in order for bass.

i’m a bit confused. there seem to be much better compressors for bass, when i quickly run through that reviews. I’m just wondering if you used other compressors and what makes the CS-2 outstanding for you.
many thanks. regards from switzerland.
Just got one for $50. Gotta love Craig’s List.
