Bass Amplifier of Choice: Ampeg Bass [review]
Ampeg bass amplification is essential to my bass sound. I have always loved how the amplifiers sound with the bass right into it but because they are such powerful amplifiers, the have enough headroom to articulate the effects that I use. Ampeg, in my opinion, makes the best bass amps and I do think that if you are going to start anywhere on bass, you must start at Ampeg. Not only do they sound great live, but they are always the go to amplifier in recording. I have been fortunate enough to have recorded in several recording studios and I would have to say, 99% of them have an Ampeg B-15 or SVT as standard equipment. My favorite, the Ampeg SVT-VR, will eat up any other head on the market. I have never blown a head or speakers! And with the effects that I run through my pedalboard, into the SVT, I am amazed I have been so lucky. - Juan Alderete

Hi Juan,
huge fan and fellow bassist here. I am greatly inspired from the stuff you do and your site is just awesome plus the timing is awesome since I broke into the studio world this year and I try to suck every piece of info like a sponge. This video made me curious; how do you record effects in the studio??? Is it too much of a ”secret process”? Will it be something that will be featured in following videos??? Oh, and one last thing what is your opinion on solid state amps?
Cheers,
E.J.
Hi Juan,
thank you for taking the time and explaining your playing/sound crafting step by step. I think pedalsandeffects.com is a very useful platform for musicians that are into out-of-the-box playing and recording.
I also have an SVT VR head made by LOUD and sometimes it doesn’t come off the standby mode in certain venues/practise rooms. Have you ever experienced the same thing with yours? Do you think it’s a voltage problem or did I just get a faulty head from factory? I’m sorry if this is a ‘techy’ kind of question, but I really love this head and it’s a pitty that I can’t fully rely on it…
Keep up the awesome posts, I find use and answers in each and every one of them!
Cheers,
T.Martins
Why are you asking Juan Alderete for tech support? You should probably call up Ampeg…
Hi Juan.
thanks for this videos.
Just one question :
When you use the channel one on the SVT-VR, it seems that you engage the Ultra High switch, use the inactive position on the “BASS-CUT/OFF/ULTRA-LO” switch, and use the medium switch in the center position ?
Am i right ?
Best regards.
